VELUX America recently announced a new addition to its skylight family. The Sun Tunnel is the easiest, most affordable way to add style, beauty and value to your home. The Sun Tunnel is perfect for hallways, bathrooms, kitchens, walk-in closets – anywhere that needs more natural light or where traditional skylights won’t fit. Sun Tunnel kits are available in two sizes. The 22” diameter Sun Tunnel will fit between 24” center framing, and the 14” diameter will fit 16” centers. The “snap ring” assembly makes connecting the highly reflective tube easy. The flexible tube makes it simple to work around obstructions in the attic without adding extensions or elbows. The kit also includes a one-piece flashing for shingle or shake roofs. These time savers mean that a typical installation can be completed in just two hours with only basic carpentry skills.

The Sun tunnel features a dual diffuser lens for the ceiling which is designed to minimize condensation and provide even light distribution without hot spots. The low profile dome design parallels the slope of the roof for an attractive appearance. An optional light kit adds a whole new dimension to the Sun Tunnel. It comes pre-assembled and is ready for wiring into a standard junction box.

Ecologically-friendly Lyptus is grown on plantations of pure Eucalyptus hybrids, interspersed with native natural forests, giving it balance to the ecosystem. Lyptus is germinated in plantation nurseries from mother trees that are picked for the desirable characteristics of sustained yield. The growth values allow it to produce thirty times the volume of wood per acre compared to other hardwood forests.

Bending Trex® for a Unique Look

Have you seen the Trex advertisements in magazines and such where the boards are curved in an arc? It really is possible! As in the photograph here, Trex can be bent creating that “signature deck” you’ve been thinking of. Of course Dunn Lumber stocks Trex in straight, composite boards made of recycled hardwood sawdust and recycled/reclaimed plastic. One of our best exterior stain products is TWP (Total Wood Preservative). It is a unique combination of chemicals designed to both preserve and protect exterior wood surfaces. Simpson Strong-Tie Connectors Selection Expanded

Over the past 12 months we have been expanding our Simpson Strong-Tie selection at several of our locations. In the coming months, the rest of our stores will also be expanding to serve our customers’ needs.

So what’s new? Column caps and column bases that use screws instead of bolts for quick, cost-effective installations. IUS hangers for I-Joist – unique hybrid hangers that incorporate the advantages of the face mount and top flange hangers. Acrylic-Tie anchoring adhesive allows dispensing at 0ºF as well as fast cure at temperatures at or above 40ºF. Stud Shoes reinforce studs notched in construction. LSSU hangers allow for field adjustment of hangers for slope up or down, skewed left or right. These are available for both regular dimensional lumber or I-Joist sizes. Straps are available from 12 inches to 150 feet long.
